Goodwill’s Computer Skills is a Washington State certified program with a progressive learning style. The program teaches computer and “soft skills” necessary to prepare for positions in today’s high-tech job environment; or to continue into post-secondary education.
Real World Setting
The Computer Skills classroom replicates a typical office setting. Each student is assigned a workstation and given tasks. Students build a resume, create a presentation and understand office etiquette. As students progress they have the opportunity to assist other students and reinforce what they learned. Key benefits include:
- Small student-to-instructor ratio and professional staff
- Hands-on learning
- Certificate of completion
- Flexible instruction with individualized training
- Open enrollment
Each student is interviewed to develop a customized training plan that includes career goals. Training may include any combination of the following skills:
- Microsoft Outlook / e-mail
- Internet navigation and application
- Microsoft Word
- Microsoft Excel
- Microsoft Access
- Microsoft PowerPoint
- Professional development
- How It Works
You are responsible for completing all of the required lessons for individual topics. Once you’ve completed all assigned lessons, lesson tests and a unit test, you’ll receive a certificate of program completion. This is useful in documenting your training for potential employers.
Most individuals referred to Goodwill for training are funded by an external agency. If you wish to participate as your won payee, you may do so, or you may apply for a scholarship. Scholarships are available to qualifying participants. Please contact the instructor for further information.
